This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 28, 2007:
No, I am agnostic, and that is indeed my true self. I have tried being religious, but I have found it impossible to shut down completely my critical intellect or my desire of ethical consistency, which religion claims to have but really does not. I look back at my religious periods and see a very different person than I was. Yet I also see that my basic ethical character never changed in that I was always a good person, never seeking or being content with anything evil. So why bother with religion at all? Maybe some people need it to function, but I know I don't.
